To keep your plumbing and drain lines running smoothly, take some time to perform small maintenance steps.
Purchase inexpensive drain filters and use these in the kitchen, bath, and laundry sinks to prevent soap chips, hair, and other solids from going down the drain and contributing to clogs. A sink strainer can be purchased for less than $3.00 at a hardware store. Dump the contents into the garbage can.
Avoid oil and grease
Avoid putting oil or grease down your drains. They may seem harmless if it’s only a little, but oil and grease will collect your in drain lines and cause problems over time. Luckily, you have Raymark to help if needed.
Check for leaks
Check routinely for leaks under sinks. Catching a leak when it’s small will save mildew and mold forming on cabinets and floors, prevent water stains on any ceilings below, and prevent property damage.
Pay attention to your wash machine drain and basement shower drains. Backups often begin at the lowest level of your home, so use these drains as indicators of overall drain line health.
Watch for slow drains
Slow drains mean something is preventing water from freely flowing out. If you have slow drains and then add guests, a clog or backup can occur. This may be because adding extra people increases the amount of water in the drain lines which then can further compromise a slow drain. Or, it may be because guests visit during the holidays and holidays involve more fatty foods. Fats in the drain line are never recommended but when drains are already compromised, grease and oils can contribute to problems.
